How to Cut Roller Blinds to Fit Your Windows
Cutting Roller Blinds
Measure the width of the window that you wish the blind to fit. Unpack the roller blind and slot in the chain guide and roller guide, then fit the brackets onto the guides.
Measure the total width of the roller blind, including the brackets. Minus the window width from the blind/bracket width, the difference in measurements is the amount to be cut from the roller, plus an extra 5mm from the blind.
First, unroll the roller blind on a flat surface and remove the bottom bar. With a ruler and a pencil, mark on the blind the measurement which was the difference between the blind and window width, plus the 5mm.
Example: blind width with brackets 122cm, minus window width 115cm. The difference is 7cm plus the 5mm to be deducted from the blind, so cut off 7.5cm (we cut an extra 5mm of the blind as this gives us an allowance of 5mm between the blind and the brackets).
Once you have marked your measurements along the side of the blind, draw a line from top to bottom, then cut the blind. Once you reach the roller, either peel back the blind from the roller to cut, or push out the fabric from the roller then cut, depending on the make of blind.
Next, cut the roller. Using a hacksaw with a sharp blade, cut through the roller. If you need to, mark the roller first, 5mm from the edge of the blind. Then cut the bottom bar to the same width as the blind, then slot back into the blind.
Once you have placed the guides back into either end of the roller you are ready to fit it.
